It’s not that we don’t WANT to take care of ourselves, it’s just that we are being pulled in so many different directions that it is hard to fit everything into 24 hours a day, right? With work, family, friends, exercise, hobbies, eating, relaxing, and everything else vying for our time, it’s no wonder many of us feel overwhelmed. So, where do we even begin trying to fit it all in? Though it seems an impossible task at first, making sure to incorporate these 4 tips for a healthy, balanced lifestyle will leave you feeling energized and able to tackle life’s challenges.

  1. Take Time for Yourself: Lack of time is the chief reason for why people don’t take the time to do things that they want to do or should be doing. Time management is a huge help to finding those few extra minutes that can really go a long way. This is best done by finding things you love to do or that provide stress relief and making them a priority in your daily and/or weekly schedule, allowing very few exceptions to get in your way.
  2. Prioritize Obligations: This may vary somewhat from day to day, but for the most part, whatever you set as a priority in life, you will make time for. Prioritize tasks that are important. Obviously, work, eating, and sleeping are biggies, but exercising should be right up there too. Usually if exercise is not made a priority, it does not happen. Plan ahead by leaving clothes in the car, try to exercise at the same time every day, just establishing a routine really helps. Sometimes it may be necessary to say “No” to certain requests or invitations in order to keep from feeling overwhelmed and to be able to keep your priorities in focus. Don’t be afraid to say no from time to time to keep your sanity.
  3. Practice Healthy Eating, Sleeping and Exercise Habits: By putting these things at the top of your priority list, they are more likely to get done. If you put these things in the category of “if I have time” or “if I feel like it” then chances are, you won’t. However, if you do make these things a priority, you will see the benefits in all other areas of your life for doing it. More energy, mental clarity, greater self-confidence, less sickness, better mood, just better overall health in general.
  4. Utilize Social Support Networks: Surround yourself with people that motivate you. Join a group with common interests and goals. Exercise with a friend. Don’t try to do everything yourself. Delegate duties when appropriate.
