Brown curtains can be a key element of a neutral living room. In fact, warm neutral colors always tend to work well in an area like a living room where you want to feel calm and relaxed. They include all the colors that sound quite edible such as honey beige, butter cream, rich coffee and chocolate brown. These colors all work very well together although it is important to get the balance right between light and dark shades.
A room decorated in nothing but dark brown would look overpoweringly dark rather than neutral. Certainly though, dark brown curtains for living room décor along with a beige carpet and darker upholstered furniture would look great. A few ornaments in a lighter brown or even in silver will stand out nicely from the furniture and curtains too.
Certainly, it is often best if you use the lighter colors on the walls, a mid range color on the floor and darker colors for curtains and furniture. Solid chocolate brown curtains in cotton, linen or velvet will work in many neutral color schemes, especially in a contemporary setting. If your room is more traditional think about using patterned brown curtains perhaps containing creams or soft golds in a classic floral, plaid or paisley pattern.
An alternative brown curtain for living room designs is a going for a patterned sheer curtain. These a partly see through, are sometimes added on top of a darker curtain, and add a feminine romantic touch to a room. If you prefer a lighter look to your room, you can lighten the whole look by using cream as the background color for your curtains with a printed coffee or beige colored pattern. Reflect the color of the pattern in the flooring or furniture so that the colors scheme works.
You will find brown curtains in most stores selling curtains as brown is a very popular color, but do not rush into buying the cheapest curtains you can find. Although dark brown curtains will hide the quality of the curtains a little, you want curtains which stand the test of time and hang properly from the curtain rods. Sometimes the stitching on cheap curtains is not quite right and they don’t hang straight or the fabric fades in no time or goes limp when the curtains are cleaned. Pay a little more and buy a good brand such as Croscill or Waverly curtains and you will be happier with the result and how your room looks.
