Taking time to be together as a family is an important part of building your family relationships. While there are several of great activities that you can do from inside the home, sometimes it just feels nice to go outside and do something together. If you are looking for a break from the usual routine and want to get outside and have some fun with your family, here are 3 great things that you can consider doing:
- Team volleyball- Volleyball is an excellent game to play outdoors and doesn’t take a lot to setup. You can get poles, a net, and a ball for relatively cheap, and it doesn’t take that much space to setup either. You can divide your family into two teams and take turns rotating players so that everyone feels like they have a fair shot at being on each team. You may have to go over the rules with everyone before you begin, but don’t worry if you begin to develop your own version of the game.
- Going for a hike- The difficulty of your hike should be based on the age and experience of all your family members. You don’t want to choose a course that will be too difficult for the youngest in the family and have them feeling left out. Likewise, you wouldn’t want to have a completely boring, flat, straight trail and have the oldest feel like they can’t wait until the hike is over. Once you’ve picked the right trail to hike, make sure that everyone has good shoes that are worn in and can handle the type of terrain that you will be facing. If you are going to be going on a longer hike, then it is a good idea to work up your endurance together as a family, so that when it comes time to hike you’ll all be more prepared.
- Take a swim- One of the best, and most fun outdoor activities that you can do as a family, is going for a swim. For the families that are lucky enough to have a pool in their backyard, there is no reason why you shouldn’t take full advantage of the pool and use it often. If your family doesn’t have a pool, no worries, because you can always head to a local pool and have just as much fun. Not only is swimming really fun, but it is also great exercise. Your family can bond over time spent splashing around in the pool.
When it comes to planning outdoor activities, the possibilities are endless. All you need is a bit of creativity and a willingness to try new things and you should be able to have a great time.
