Many people are just too busy to sleep. They always deprive themselves of enough sleep in exchange for more workloads. They keep on ignoring the fact that sleep is one of the basic needs of human beings. Sleeping is not an option. It is one of the requirements of healthy living. However, many people today complain about having difficulty in sleeping. This is because they keep on doing things before bedtime that only exacerbate their sleeping problems. Some of the things that you should NOT do before bedtime are the following:
Watching TV or playing games on the computer
Some people wrongfully believe that these activities will tire their minds and send them off to sleep. Unfortunately, these activities will only make their minds refuse to sleep. Their minds became even more active while doing such activities. But, this does not mean you should not watch TV at night. Just make sure that you turn off the TV or the computer at least an hour before bedtime.
Eating a heavy dinner or heavy snack
An individual must avoid eating too much before bedtime. A full stomach makes your body too busy with digesting the food that you eat. As a result, you will end up experiencing stress and anxiety over your difficulty sleeping.
Working out or exercising late at night
Regular exercise helps promote sleep in an individual. However, if you exercise an hour before your bedtime you will be giving yourself a hard time falling asleep. This is because exercise boosts your energy to a higher level and it will not just immediately wind down. It is better to schedule your exercise regimen at least two hours before bedtime. You may also choose to exercise early in the morning or as soon as you wake up.
Thinking about unfinished tasks of the day
Sometimes it is so difficult to avoid thinking about work as soon as you arrive home. But, you need to find ways to distract your mind from thinking about work. Try some relaxation techniques to help you achieve a relaxed and calm mind. This way, you will be able to sleep well and wake up feeling refreshed.
These bad habits must be stopped so that you can achieve a quality sleep at night. Remember that not having enough sleep at night is a surefire way to experience anxiety and stress at work.
